Wacom Feel IT Technologies Delivers Intuitive Input To IREX DR800SG eReader Users

Wacom’s pen technology provides comfortable menu navigation and annotation capabilities for eReader consumers looking for an edge

Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, WA – Nov. 18, 2009 – Wacom announced today that its Wacom pen technology will be used with the IREX DR800SG, marking the first time the pen will be deployed with a consumer eReader.

IREX selected Wacom for its expertise in providing sophisticated UI technologies, including its Wacom pen technology, a battery-free and cordless pen which offers comfortable, "pen-point" navigational control, as well as the ability to make notes and diagrams directly on the ePaper’s surface.

"The long-term relationship forged between IREX and Wacom, starting with the IREX iLiad product three years ago, is helping to make electronic devices more natural and fun to use," said Hidetoshi Kamoto, Division General Manager of Wacom’s Components Division. "We are pleased to be working with IREX, a company that shares our vision of creating harmony between humans and technology."

The e-paper display is a perfect companion for Wacom Feel IT Technologies. Clearly, e-paper, e-ink and the e-pen represent an exciting movement for those embracing a digital lifestyle.

"As the eReader continues to evolve and becomes a substitute to paper-based books, magazines, and newspapers, offering a natural and interactive experience and note-taking capabilities, supported by the Wacom pen, will be a key differentiator within the category," said Kevin Hamilton, CEO of IREX North America. "Wacom’s high-quality interface solutions align perfectly with IREX’s’s goal of supplying a product that will be regarded as the premium choice by eReader consumers."

Wacom also provides its pen technology for IREX’s DR1000SG, an eReader device with note-taking functionality designed for enterprise use.
