What are the Benefits of Wacom's CapPLUS Technology?
Traditional (legacy) capacitive technology has limitations in where it can be used. For example, environments where the temperature and humidity vary over a wide range in a short space of time will cause instability and inaccuracy. Vertical markets, such as medical cannot be targeted due to the inability of these legacy capacitive sensors to work with users wearing surgical gloves. Or using the technology in handheld, battery powered devices with no ground connection.
CapPLUS solves these issues and many more besides
Key Benefits of CapPLUS
- Drift free operation, not affected by temperature or humidity, even during battery operation
-
Screen works with wet fingers or outdoors in rain and snow
-
Impedance of the conductive surface to electrical ground can be as little as 25 ohms
-
Signal measurements and interpretation is carried out via digital electronics using Wacom's patented controller design
- Both ATO (with high-resistance conductive properties) and ITO (with low resistive properties) can be used as the conductive sensing, surface material
- CapPLUS allows for a thicker protective coating over the conductive surface of the screen for more durability than existing screens (up to 4 times thicker)
- Each touch is detected and measured using four static fields
- Touch operation is extremely fast (128 points per second max)
- Useful signals are so easy to identify that grounding changes, environmental EM noise and variations in the user’s skin and finger size do not affect touch performance
- Will work through surgical gloves
- Technology allows for the creation of larger screen sizes (> 46”)
- Screens are linear all the way to the edge of the active areas, even on large size screens (>46”)
- Touch accuracy and linearity is reliable even under battery power, or when switching from battery to AC and in AC-powered systems with floating or noisy ground connections
- Even under battery power, neither the user nor the touch system require good contact to ground
- Metal bezels and surrounds do not cause problems with accuracy even when holding onto them
