22 September 2008, Tokyo – The world’s leading provider of e-reading solutions with annotation capability, iRex Technologies, has selected Wacom Penabled® Technology as the basic input method for the iRex Digital Reader 1000, their new series of e-readers for the business professional.
Following the success of the iRex iLiad series, the company recognized the need for a new generation of e-readers for business users. The result is the iRex 1000 series, offering superior functionality and a unique 10.2 inch electronic paper display to allow easy reading and referencing of documents from A4 PowerPoint presentations to sophisticated PDF files and from HTML to TXT and JPEG. Increased memory ensures that users can be confident that the device will hold any and all documents they require.
With Wacom’s patented EMR® sensor system as the main input method, users can use make notes and annotations using normal handwriting and drawing directly on the iRex Digital Reader 1000 display with a highly accurate and sensitive digital pen. Writing appears on the document immediately, just as you would expect with normal paper and ink. In addition, the pen provides an intuitive way to navigate the device user interface, just point at what you want.
When using an iRex Digital Reader 1000, the business professional no longer needs to carry around heavy and bulky documentation or other paperwork. It offers a way for individuals and companies to cut out the billions of pages of printed paper they produce each year, making a powerful contribution to the environment. “The computer revolutionised the way we do business, but it has never offered a solution to match paper. With the launch of the 1000 series it is now possible to ‘print’ documents onto electronic paper for the first time as well as mark them up in a completely intuitive way.” said Hans Brons, CEO of iRex.
“Tax specialists, accountants and lawyers that previously had thick piles of documents can carry them in their digital reader; students and academics can easily save their textbooks in the device; government and public sector organisations can make minutes and reports available electronically whilst medical specialists can have all their patient information and key texts at their fingertips.”
“Our partnerships with technology leaders like Wacom are vital to drive new and better applications. We selected Wacom’s EMR digitizer for the iRex iLiad series and continue with iRex 1000 series to provide our end-users the best-of-breed technology for pen-based data entry” said Hans Brons.
“What could be more natural for the average professional than making notes on reports with a pen or for the average student than underlining or circling important text in a book? Wacom delivers this with a battery-less, cordless pen to iRex e-readers, which are unique in the world in realizing that not only do people want to read paper documents digitally, they also want to write on them.” comments Stephan Herron, Director Component Sales EMEA for Wacom. “iRex and Wacom worked closely together through the entire development cycle for the iRex Digital Reader 1000 to ensure that demanding professional users would experience the ultimate paper-like experience.”
